Fire training for Hospitals and Care Homes

Aimed at

All staff (Compulsory)

 

Goals

·       Attendees will understand how to be prepared to respond and take appropriate action in case of an emergency

·       How to set up and use Ski Sheets

 

Learning outcomes

 

By the end of this course participants will understand

·       Fire risk assessment

·       How fires start and how to extinguish a fire

·       How to operate a fire extinguisher

·       The range of extinguishers available and the practical use of CO² and foam extinguisher

·       Fire prevention – good housekeeping

·       Compartmentation and evacuation strategy

·       Fire orders/action Centre handout

·       Ski Sheets – Location, correct fitting, correct storage of safety belts and drag straps, lifting the resident off the bed.

·       Evacuation 1 or 2 compartments from origin of fire.

SAFEGUARDING VULNERABLE PERSONS AT RISK OF ABUSE

Description

 

This course aims to assist participants in the prevention, detection and management elder abuse.

 

Aimed at

All staff

 

Goals

·        To assist staff to understand and meet requirements set out in Section 8 – Protection – the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland (HIQA)

·        To ensure a consistent, appropriate and person centred response to the reporting and management of suspicions, and or allegations relating to elder abuse within Ardmore Care

 

Learning outcomes

 

Following this course participants will be able to:

·        define elder abuse and identify the 6 types of elder abuse

·        recognise the signs and symptoms that abuse is taking place

·        understand that abuse can happen anywhere and at any time

·        understand that abuse can be committed by anyone

·        know how to deal with reporting elder abuse if they witness or suspect that elder abuse is taking place

·        understand that if they do not report incidents/suspicion of elder abuse then they are complicit in that abuse
